Animals and Attitude

Animals and Attidute

What he heck does Animals have to do with attitude?

Since the beginning of mankind man has had a close dependance on animals. First for food then domestication. Indigenous people thoughout the world noticed some similarities or traits that man had in common with animals.

Indigenous people also associated spiritualism with animals depnding on the attributes and characteristics of the animal. Over time the association with traits and characterisitics tribal people gave to animals became know as Animal Totems.

Animal totems have become popular in modern pop culture. People see traits of animals and used replicas of those animals as talismans. Most often in the form of animal jewelry.

Case in point: The Butterfly represents change and transition because of the circle of life that occurs in a butterfly. It starts out as a caterpillar and then goes into a cocoon and then emerges as a butterfly. Add the butterfly laying eggs which hatching into caterpillars and you have sysmbolism used in Christianity or renewal or resurrection.

That's cool you say but what's that got to do with attitude? Glad you asked.

People spend thousands of dollars on positive attitude and self help seminars to learn how to change their life. Maybe in a life time then spend hundreds of dollars on self help books. All of this centers around a positive mental attitude.

People have used symbols for jewelry since the dawn of mankind. Here's where it all comes together. Animals have totems or attributes. Wear a piece of animal jewelry that has a totem or meaning that represents the type of characterisitc you want in your life or that represents an aspect of your attiude that needs improvement. Now you have a constant visual reminder of the types of attributes that are unique to you and your self help needs but on the outside you're wearing a fashionable fine piece of  sterling silver animal jewelry.

People see that jewelry and are impressed but to you it is a constant private reminder of something far more precious than precious metal jewelry.

Heres a small list of Animals and portions of their totems broken down to keywords:

  • Horse: Power, Spirit, Stamina, Mobility
  • Dog: Friendship, Loyalty, Protection, Love, Helping, Gentleness, Fierce, and Friendly
  • Butterfly: Transformation, Change, Life, Transition and Renewal
  • Dragonfly: Looking from different angles, Transformation, Flexibility and Adaptibility
  • Dolphin: Healing, Love, Helper, Power, Awareness, Sacrifice and compassion
  • Turtle: Life, Strength, Fertility, Vitality, and Patience

There are as many totems as their are animals. Go to Silver Animal Jewelry Charms to see many more animal totems.

So for an example of how all this works. If I found my attitude was to rigid and needed flexibility without loosing the power of spirit that I need I might choose a horse necklace and use the horse totem. There is a nice selection of horse jewelry along with many other types of animal jewelry at SilverAnimals.com

Using the symbolism of animal totems can also be inspirational which is related to positive attitude and self help.
